Kaleta gets decked and Subban’s big hip check

Last night there were two big hits that stood out. First in the Buffalo-Toronto game, Sabres cheapshot artist Patrick Kaleta got a taste of his own medicine as he got absolutely decked from Leafs Nikolai Kulemin.

Then in the St. Louis-Montreal game, Canadiens P.K. Subban laid a big hip check on Blues Barret Jackman.

Lecavalier-Subban slash it out on each other

Oh no call the cops! Montreal’s P.K. Subban was slashed by Lightning’s Vincent Lecavalier and Subban went down to the ice like he was shot. Of course Subban started the slashing match they had by slashing Lecavalier first. We all know Subban is an instigator and no call was made on him because you know the refs don’t want to upset the fans and have them call the police and try to bring them to court for actually calling a penalty on a Habs player. So Lecavalier slashes back at Subban and he goes down. In the video it looks like the stick hit Subban’s thigh/upper leg area. When Subban finally got up he skated to the bench holding his left arm. Hmmm…

After the game, Lecavalier talked to the Tampa Tribune:

“I looked at the replay and he slashed me twice on the wrist. So if I was going to get kicked out of the game, he should have, too. … Just because he stayed on the ice … obviously he came back on the next shift. He was fine the rest of the game, he was good.”

Update: no suspension to Lecavalier

Nice article about the incident and some quotes from Lecavalier, courtesy of Lightning Strikes article:

First of all, where the heck was the referees. The players are going at it for about 30 seconds right in front of them. Plenty of opportunities to send either or both off the ice with minor penalties and short-circuit what might have escalated into a dangerous confrontation. Instead, the confrontation gets violent and the game, and the Lightning, loses one of its marquee players because Subban, who came back for the second period and played enthusiastically for the rest of the game, put on an acting class.

Asked if he believed Subban milked it for the refs, Lecavalier said easily, “Oh, of course.”

“Everybody knows he was playing a role there. Myself and probably most of the guys don’t respect a guy like that. He’s the type of guy who doesn’t respect anybody. It’s all there is to say. He’s not a well-liked guy, not because of the way he plays but because of the way he does things. He’s a great player. He will be for a long time. But his attitude, that’s just the way he is.”

Subban gets air from Ovechkin hit

Alex Ovechkin sends P.K. Subban up and over him with a big hit. Subban got major air from that hit. Yeah it’s not a fight but that was a big hit we had to share on here.

P.K. Subban vs Brian Sutherby fight

After some stick work P.K. Subban tries to pull a Sean Avery and drop his gloves at a possibly not ready Brian Sutherby and Subban can’t keep his balance. Sutherby keeps the code and lets Subban get up twice without throwing punches, but when Sutherby loses his balance and goes down, Subban throw a punch and Sutherby responds with a punch.

P.K. Subban finally drops the gloves

Well there has been much debate about Montreal Canadiens rookie P.K. Subban’s talking on the ice and the respect he isn’t showing to veterans around the league. Well in the Montreal-Atlanta game on November 26th Subban finally dropped the gloves, although it took a lot of challenging and pulling from Zach Bogosian, Subban quickly drop the gloves and tried to sneak in a quick sucker punch. Then after that, Subban basically held on for dear life until Bogosian could get somewhat free and throw some punches at Subban.
