Devils vs Rangers line brawl to start the game

Monday night, off the opening faceoff in the New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers game, we had three fights happen at the same time. It looked like old-time hockey out there and we loved it! Check it out below. It was Ryan Carter vs Stu Bickel, Cam Janssen vs Brandon Prust and Eric Boulton vs Mike Rupp. Carter hits his face on the ice and gets a bloody nose.

Fight of year candidate: Eric Boulton vs Chris Neil

On Monday night, in the Devils-Senators game, Eric Boulton and Chris Neil had a good spirited fight, trading punches with each other.

Eric Boulton sends Douglas Murray down to the ice with one punch KO

On Friday we saw a big Devils Eric Boulton punch send Sharks Douglas Murray down to the ice. You usually don’t see many KOs in hockey fights. I’m sure there are a lot of players cheering when they saw that, since Murray is known for his big hits and sometimes cheap hits.

Some good recent hockey fights

There have been some good hockey fights recently. You got to check out these good ones.

Cam Janssen vs John Scott, November 30, 2010
Scott handles Janssen well at the start, and then Janssen comes back late in the fight. Lots of punches in this one.

Shawn Thornton vs Eric Boulton, November 28, 2010
Good fight with Thornton getting the decision in this one.

John Scott vs Kevin Westgarth, November 27, 2010
Scott bloodies Westgarth in this one.

Brad Winchester vs Brian Sutherby, November 26, 2010
Winchester keeps throwing the rights and gets the win against Sutherby.

Matt Bradley vs Troy Bodie, November 24, 2010
Bodie shows his new teammates what he can do as he cuts Bradley open in this fight.

Jared Boll vs Trevor Gillies, November 24, 2010
Boll puts a late hit on John Tavares so Gillies comes over and smacks Boll around.

Kevin Westgarth vs Chris Neil, November 22, 2010
They drop the gloves soon after the faceoff and exchange major punches with Neil getting the better of the younger Westgarth. Nothing new with Neil throwing punches late at a player down in a vulnerable position.

Boulton vs Erskine probably fight of the year so far

In tonight’s Atlanta Thrashers-Washington Capitals game, besides all the goals being scored, there was a real good heavyweight bout between Thrashers Eric Boulton and Capitals John Erskine. Both guys traded bombs with each other and it looked like some landed on each other. Nice fight, I give that one a draw. Watch it below and let us know what you think.

A look at Southeast division team’s enforcers for the upcoming season

In our third part of this series, looking at the teams in each division in the NHL and seeing who will be the team’s enforcer, we’ll take a look at the Southeast division.

The first team we’ll look at are the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers have Eric Boulton as their enforcer. Last season Boulton played in 62 games and had 13 fights. Ben Eager is now a Thrasher, coming over to Atlanta after winning the Stanley Cup with Chicago. I wonder if him and Chris Pronger will have some words the first time they play because of the puck stealing incidents.

The next team we’ll look at are the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes don’t really have an enforcer. You can kind of say maybe Jay Harrison is, but after seeing what Milan Lucic did to him, I would tell him not to fight. He had 6 fights in 38 games last season.

Up next are the Florida Panthers. In the off-season they signed Andrew Peters, so if he makes the team he will be their enforcer, protecting all of their young players.

Next up are the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning don’t have an enforcer, but they did sign 6’8″ giant Mitch Fritz during the off-season but I’m not sure he’s going to make the team. Fritz last played in the NHL during the 2008-09 season with the Islanders.

And next are the Washington Capitals. The Capitals traded for enforcer D.J. King from the St. Louis Blues. It’s good to see the Capitals have an enforcer, as they didn’t since Donald Brashear left town. King isn’t going to let anyone talk crap about Alex Ovechkin anymore…

When King was told what Pittsburgh’s Max Talbot had to say about Alex Ovechkin on Tuesday — the Penguins winger said “I just hate the guy” and called the Capitals’ captain a name — he shot back, “Wow. I guess that’s not going to be happening too much longer.”

Stay tuned, next we will look at the western conference.
