Devils vs Rangers line brawl to start the game

Monday night, off the opening faceoff in the New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers game, we had three fights happen at the same time. It looked like old-time hockey out there and we loved it! Check it out below. It was Ryan Carter vs Stu Bickel, Cam Janssen vs Brandon Prust and Eric Boulton vs Mike Rupp. Carter hits his face on the ice and gets a bloody nose.

Cam Janssen vs Krys Barch, possible fight of the year

Last Tuesday in the Devils-Panthers game, Cam Janssen and Krys Barch had a good fight. Both guys threw some bombs but looked like Barch got the better of Janssen in this one. And no they did not set up this fight on Twitter. I think this fight could be a possible fight of the year.

Brian McGrattan is back, fights Cam Janssen in marathon bout

featured_janssen_vs_mcgratton

It didn’t take long for Brian McGrattan to make his presence felt for his new team, the Nashville Predators. On Saturday, in his second game for the Predators he dropped the gloves with Devils Cam Janssen and they had a long marathon bout with both guys exchanging punches and not really having any defense. Both guys were smiling and kept throwing until they were dead tired. McGrattan dominated early and Janssen came back at the end, but I don’t know how much those punches by Janssen had on them near the end. It’s great to see McGrattan back in the NHL. Watch the long fight below.

Cam Janssen vs Trevor Gillies fight twice in preseason game

Both veterans are fighting for spots in the lineup of their respective teams. Cam Janssen, back with the New Jersey Devils after playing with the St. Louis Blues a few seasons, is fighting for the Devils tough guy role for the Devils with teammate Eric Boulton. Islanders Trevor Gillies is fighting a spot in the lineup with a team full of youth. Saturday night they met up and had two good fights, the second one was much better. In their first fight in the second period, the linesmen came in way too early to break it up and Gillies threw a late punch that looked to squarely hit Janssen in the face. Gillies then was gesturing to the linesmen like ‘what are you doing?’ and then said something to Janssen. In the third period they would drop the gloves again and have a good long fight with Gillies getting the decision in that one as well.

Fight of the year candidate: Cam Janssen vs Jim Vandermeer

Edmonton Oilers Jim Vandermeer has had some really good fights this season. His latest was on Thursday, March 24th where he took on St. Louis Blues Cam Janssen and they had a good long slugfest. It’s definitely a candidate for fight of the year. You gotta go with a draw on this one. What do you think?

They also fought on February 4th this season, check it out below, another good one.

Marathon bout: Jared Boll vs Cam Janssen

St. Louis Blues Cam Janssen has another beauty of a fight this season, taking on Blues Jackets Jared Boll in a marathon bout on March 7th, 2011. Almost two minutes long, what a fight! This was definitely a “fight of the year” candidate.

Fight of year candidate: Krys Barch vs Cam Janssen

On Sunday another candidate for fight of the year happened in the Stars-Blues game between Krys Barch and Cam Janssen. They have had previous good fights but nothing like this where they trade back and forth toe-to-toe. What a fight. I got to give that a draw, both guys landed some big bombs. Check it out below.

Some good recent hockey fights

There have been some good hockey fights recently. You got to check out these good ones.

Cam Janssen vs John Scott, November 30, 2010
Scott handles Janssen well at the start, and then Janssen comes back late in the fight. Lots of punches in this one.

Shawn Thornton vs Eric Boulton, November 28, 2010
Good fight with Thornton getting the decision in this one.

John Scott vs Kevin Westgarth, November 27, 2010
Scott bloodies Westgarth in this one.

Brad Winchester vs Brian Sutherby, November 26, 2010
Winchester keeps throwing the rights and gets the win against Sutherby.

Matt Bradley vs Troy Bodie, November 24, 2010
Bodie shows his new teammates what he can do as he cuts Bradley open in this fight.

Jared Boll vs Trevor Gillies, November 24, 2010
Boll puts a late hit on John Tavares so Gillies comes over and smacks Boll around.

Kevin Westgarth vs Chris Neil, November 22, 2010
They drop the gloves soon after the faceoff and exchange major punches with Neil getting the better of the younger Westgarth. Nothing new with Neil throwing punches late at a player down in a vulnerable position.

A look at Pacific division team’s enforcers for the upcoming season

Cam Janssen vs Krys Barch

Here’s the sixth and last part of our series where we’re looking at the teams in each division in the NHL and seeing who will be the team’s enforcer. In this post we’ll take a look at the teams in the Pacific division.

The first team we’ll look at are the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks will have George Parros and his stash protecting his teammates once this season. The Ducks also have Troy Bodie and Aaron Voros who are known to drop the gloves. Voros should maybe think about lowering the times he does drop the gloves as last season was not a good year for him in terms of fighting. Parros had 20 fights in 57 games last season. Bodie had 8 fights in 44 games last season. Voros, with the New York Rangers last season, had 13 fights in 41 games last season.

The next team Dallas Stars and there enforcer will be Krys Barch, who has been their enforcer for a while now. Barch played 63 games last season and had 20 fights. Barch and St. Louis Blues’ Cam Janssen set up a date with each other via Twitter, you don’t want to miss that first Stars-Blues game. But it seems Barch is no longer on Twitter and their tweets to each other are gone. Aawww another loss in the hockey Twitter world. I blame Bettman! :) If you really want to see their tweets to each other, I think PuckDaddy has them on his blog somewhere. Luckily Cam Janssen is still on Twitter.

Up next are the Los Angeles Kings and their enforcer may be Kevin Westgarth, that’s if he can make the team. Tough guy Raitis Ivanans left for the Calgary Flames via free agency. Last season Westgarth played in the AHL, 76 games with the Manchester Monarchs and had 18 fights.

Next up are the Phoenix Coyotes and their enforcer will be Paul Bissonnette again this season. Bissonnette is one of the more popular NHL players on Twitter. Last season he played in 41 games and had 19 fights.

The last team to look at are the San Jose Sharks. It was a surprise to see the Sharks trade away Jody Shelley last season. Their enforcer for the upcoming season will probably be Frazer McLaren. McLaren had 8 fights and played 23 games last season for the Sharks. Players like Jason Demers, Jay Leach, and Jamie McGinn are all tough to play against and will drop the gloves when necessary.

And this concludes our six part series of looking at each team in their division and who may be their enforcers for the upcoming 2010-11 season. The NHL season will soon be starting and we’re excited as we know you all are as well. Throughout the season we’ll talk hockey, post about fights and incidents that happen during the season. Leave us comments and let us know what you think.

A look at Central division team’s enforcers for the upcoming season

George Parros vs Wade Belak

We finished up the Eastern conference teams and now we’ll look at the Western conference teams and see who is each team’s enforcer for the upcoming season. In the fourth part of this series, looking at the teams in each division in the NHL and seeing who will be the team’s enforcer, we’ll take a look at the teams in the Central division. So here we go…

The first team we’ll look at are the Chicago Blackhawks. In the off-season the Blackhawks signed 6’8″ giant John Scott who can play either forward or defense. Look for Scott to be their main tough guy. Scott had 6 fights in 51 games last season with the Minnesota Wild.

The next team we’ll look at are the Columbus Blue Jackets and their enforcer will be Jared Boll again, who has been their main enforcer since Jody Shelley was traded away. Last season Boll had 21 fights in 68 games.

Up next are the Detroit Red Wings and as usual the Red Wings don’t have an enforcer on their roster. Is anyone surprised by this? Aaron Downey is on the preseason training camp roster but I doubt he will make the team.

Next up are the Nashville Predators and their enforcer will be Wade Belak once again this season. Belak had 10 fights in 39 games last season. Hopefully his should will be ok this season.

And for the St. Louis Blues, they don’t have a true heavyweight, so their enforcers will be middleweights Cam Janssen and B.J. Crombeen. Janssen had 19 fights in 43 games last season. Crombeen had 18 fights in 79 games last season.

The next division we will look at is the Northwest division. Stay tuned for that post!
