Senators and Flyers brawl it up

Ok it wasn’t exactly like the March 5, 2004 brawl and fights after that brawl between the Senators and Flyers, but last night the Sens and Flyers had a fight filled third period.

*Warning for the videos below, I could only find the Senators broadcast and there are some stupid comments made by the commentators.

First there was Jesse Winchester fighting Jeff Carter.

Later it was Claude Giroux vs Nick Foligno.

Later Scott Hartnell vs Jarkko Ruutu, Jody Shelley vs Chris Neil, and Sean O’Donnell vs Matt Carkner.

George Parros vs Colton Orr

We don’t see Toronto Maple Leafs tough guy Colton Orr get beat many times but last night he took a solid shot from Anaheim Ducks tough guy George Parros and went down to the ice. Hopefully Orr is ok from this and doesn’t miss any time.

Sidney Crosby talks about Steckel hit

PuckDaddy had a good article about Sidney Crosby comments about the recent hits he took that probably caused him a concussion.

Crosby’s comments on Capitals David Steckel’s hit:

“I feel like he could have gotten out of the way and avoided me. Whether he tried to hurt me, only he knows. I guess we’ll never know that, but you still have to be responsible out there.”

Crosby, please watch the replay again. You skated into Steckel. In the replay you can see Steckel try and get out of the way but it was too late. He could have avoided you? He got up and went to skate up ice and you turned into him. Not sure how you can get out of someone’s way when they are skating into you.

Some more comments from Crosby…

It’s easy saying that, being in this situation; but those are two hits, looking back, that I can’t say I should have done something different or had my head down. I wouldn’t change anything.

Huh? Well then you are stupid. For the hit that you skated into with Steckel, how about watch where you’re skating?

On the Steckel one, it’s tough. It’s really tough to decide if he meant to or didn’t mean to. I feel like he could have gotten out of the way and avoided me. Whether he tried to hurt me, only he knows. I guess we’ll never know that, but you still have to be responsible out there. I can carry my stick up around my head and say that I’m protecting myself, but I still have to be responsible for whatever I do with my stick if I end up high-sticking someone.

It’s the same thing. In that situation, I don’t see anything [and] he sees me there. He sees the whole ice and he doesn’t avoid me. I don’t think that’s responsible on his part. Whether or not he tried to hurt me, only he knows that. But he’s got to be the one to try to avoid me in that situation.

Yeah Steckel saw the whole ice and was going to skate up it and then all of a sudden you turn into him and boom. Steckel did try to avoid you. Watch the replay again Crosby.

Fight of year candidate: Krys Barch vs Cam Janssen

On Sunday another candidate for fight of the year happened in the Stars-Blues game between Krys Barch and Cam Janssen. They have had previous good fights but nothing like this where they trade back and forth toe-to-toe. What a fight. I got to give that a draw, both guys landed some big bombs. Check it out below.

Colton Orr vs Matt Carkner and Chris Neil

Maple Leafs Colton Orr was a busy guy last night against the Senators as he took on Matt Carkner and Chris Neil. We all were hoping that a Orr-Carkner fight would happen and be another slugfest between these two but it ended early as Carkner stepped on a stick and went down. Earlier in the game Orr challenged Neil but Neil declined and lots of trash talking by Orr. So then later in the game Orr went at Neil and challenged him again. They dropped the gloves and had a good long fight with both guys landing some good punches. Edge goes to Orr but Neil held his own against a heavyweight.

Winter Classic fight: John Erskine vs Mike Rupp

Happy New Years everyone! The Winter Classic was last night and we had the second Winter Classic fight ever. This one was between Capitals John Erskine and Penguins Mike Rupp. It was a good back and forth fight and at the end it looked like Rupp said something and was done.
